Frequently Asked Questions

What is PostAnything.Online?

PostAnything.Online is a social wall where anyone can post anything (within our rules). Every accepted post is cryptographically chained to the one before it, forming an immutable "postchain" — a permanent public record that cannot be altered.

How does the account system work?

There are no emails or passwords. When you visit for the first time, we generate a unique 12-word BIP39 mnemonic phrase for you. This phrase is your account. Write it down or copy it somewhere safe — it's the only way to log back in.

What happens if I lose my phrase?

Unfortunately there is no recovery option. Your phrase is never stored in plain text on our servers — we only hold a one-way hash. If you lose your phrase, your account is permanently inaccessible. New accounts can be created at any time.

What are credits?

Credits are the on-site currency. You start with 100 free bonus credits (usable for posts and comments). A main credit balance starts at 0 and can be earned by correct voting, receiving tips, or purchased directly via Stripe.

How much do things cost?

Posting costs 10 credits. Comments cost 1 credit. Tipping, advertising, and other actions use your main balance. Bonus credits are always spent first.

What is the Temp Wall?

All posts start on the Temp Wall, where the community votes to accept or reject them. Posts with enough Accept votes (≥60% ratio, minimum 3 votes) are moved to the Main Wall during regular processing runs.

What is the Main Wall?

The Main Wall is the permanent, immutable postchain. Each post is hashed together with the previous post's hash, forming a chain. Posts on the Main Wall cannot be changed — only their tags and visibility can be adjusted by their author.

What is the postchain?

The postchain is our blockchain-inspired linking system. Each post on the Main Wall includes a SHA-256 hash computed from its content plus the previous post's hash. This means any tampering with any post in the chain would be immediately detectable.

Can I edit a post?

You can submit a new version of any of your posts. On the Temp Wall, the new version goes back into the review queue. On the Main Wall, edits are reviewed by an admin before being added as a new version. The original post stays in the chain; visitors can browse all versions.

How does voting work?

On the Temp Wall, logged-in users can vote Accept, Reject, or Neutral on any post (not their own). Your vote carries a weight based on your voting track record. Correct votes (accepting posts that make it to the chain, or rejecting ones that don't) earn positive points and credits. Wrong votes earn negative points.

What are positive/negative/neutral points?

These three numbers reflect your voting accuracy. Positive points go up when your vote matches the outcome. Negative points go up when it doesn't. Neutral points accumulate from abstention votes. Together they determine your vote weight, which starts at 1.0 and adjusts based on your track record.

What is vote weight?

Your vote weight (shown on your profile) is calculated as: 1 + (positive − negative) / (positive + negative + neutral + 1). A new user starts at weight 1. A consistently accurate voter approaches weight 2. A consistently wrong voter approaches weight 0.

How do tips work?

You can tip any poster or commenter from your main credit balance. Tips to comments are instant. Tips to a post (or the poster's own comments on that post) are held until the post is accepted into the Main Wall — if the post is rejected or expires, the tip is refunded.

Can I buy credits?

Yes. Visit the Credits page to purchase credit packages via Stripe. Your payment info is handled entirely by Stripe — we never see your card details.

How do I advertise?

Logged-in users can book ad slots (sidebar, top banner, bottom banner) using main credits. Visit the Advertise page to see available slots and pricing.

Can I have a display name?

Yes! Display names are purchasable identities — 3 to 15 alphanumeric characters. They replace your anonymous ID everywhere on the site. You can own multiple names, set one as your primary, and sell others on the marketplace. Shorter names are rarer and cost more credits to mint.

How does the name marketplace work?

Any name you own can be listed for sale at a price you set. Other users can buy it directly with main credits. A small marketplace fee (shown on the marketplace page) is deducted from the sale price. All ownership transfers are permanently recorded in the name's transfer history.

What happens to my posts if I sell a name?

Your posts keep whatever display name was set at the time they were viewed. When ownership transfers, your primary name is automatically reassigned to your next oldest name, or removed if you have no others. The chain records are not affected.

What happens to posts that don't get enough votes?

Temp Wall posts that haven't been accepted within 24 hours are automatically soft-deleted. They are no longer publicly visible but are retained for admin review before permanent deletion.

Still have questions? Post them on the wall.
